Scarlett's sensual and energizing Viscerabegins the programme; Afternoon of a Faun is Robbins's exquisite response to Debussy's langorous Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune; Tchaikovsky Pas de deux is a bravura showpiece illustrating in miniature Balanchine's neoclassical style; and Acosta's Carmen, in which he also dances Don José in his farewell performance with The Royal Ballet, is a searingly dramatic reinterpretation of a timeless favourite.
