Graham Vick's production of Mosè in Egitto set alight the 2011 Rossini Opera Festival in the composer's home town of Pesaro. The Biblical tale of oppression, inspiration and freedom finds striking resonance on today's battlefields accross the world, from Chechnya to Palestine. As Vick remarks, 'The biggest stories raise the biggest questions.' No controversy surrounded the musical values, with experienced Rossinian Roberto Abbado in the pit and eloquent singing from Sonia Ganassi and Alex Esposito.
