Curtain Up – Behind the scenes at the Royal Opera House Book

Take a peek behind the scenes at the Royal Opera House with this beautiful childrens book produced by Thames & Hudson. See Lauren O'Hara's illustrations come to life while you follow Figaro around the busy theatre.

It's opening night of The Nutcracker, and the performers at the Royal Opera House are busy getting ready to step out onto the stage. Meanwhile, Figaro - the opera house's resident cat - is poised to take readers on a behind-the-scenes tour to meet the many people working to make tonight's performance a resounding success.

Darcey Bussell, former principal ballerina of The Royal Ballet, said “There really is no other theatre like it! The Royal Opera House brings so many creative artists under one roof, working hard towards wonderful new productions and performances. When you step into the building, you step into a treasure trove of sights, sounds and senses, from the music of the orchestra, the sweat of the dancers to the heat from the lights on the stage. Lauren’s wonderful illustrations bring all this to life and bring back so many memories for me. This is your very own tour to see everything that goes on in every room of this exciting opera house. Enjoy every page!”

Informative and fun!

Two of my grandchildren read this book with me - my 9 year old grandson and his 5 year old sister. Both were fascinated - there were things to interest both boys and girls, and they were delighted to discover connections to stories they knew, such as The Nutcracker. A perfect preparation for the 'Curtain Up' workshop.
